 Josh Benton serves as the Deputy Secretary for Workforce with the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.  In this role, Josh leads the cabinet’s workforce development agencies, policies and strategies and serves as the liaison to education and workforce partners to coordinate and elevate the state’s workforce efforts.


Deputy Secretary Benton has more than 14 years of public service focused on strengthening Kentucky’s workforce and building the state’s economy. Prior to moving to the cabinet, Josh served as Executive Director of Workforce & Community Development for the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development where he led community development and research efforts.   His office also led Economic Development’s workforce efforts, including workforce project management, program and policy development. 


In addition, while at Economic Development he previously served as a project manager for the Bluegrass State Skills Corporation and for the Office of Business Development.  Deputy Secretary Benton has also worked in the Kentucky Office of Career and Technical Education and at UPS. Josh holds bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Cumberland College and master’s degree in Public Administration from Kentucky State University.
