Stephen Oakes

Stephen Oakes is the Supervisory Special Agent assigned to the FBI's Louisville Division's Cyber Squad. Prior to being in Louisville, SSA Oakes was assigned to the Cyber Initiative and Resource Fusion Unit (CIRFU) of the FBI, co-located with the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance (NCFTA) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His first assignment was to the FBI Washington DC Division’s Criminal Cyber Squad. He has worked for the FBI the since 2005 and his experience includes investigations into cyber threats including computer intrusions, botnets, bullet-proof hosting, skimming, virtual currencies, and the underground economy. SSA Oakes holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Georgetown College, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky School of Law, and a Master of Science in Information Technology from Carnegie Melon University. SSA Oakes is also currently serving a SAUSA with the Western District of Kentucky to support expedited triage and prosecution of intrusion investigations for his squad.
